Our little stargazer is 1!

A huge mix of emotions: happy, sad, overwhelmed, relieved and so much love.

I mentioned before that when he was born, our midwife called him a “stargazer baby”. He was face up when he came out, which she said is a much harder way to get them out. But he was face up and eyes open, and ready to be here.

But let me share some of the other reasons why this theme is so special to me:

*Our announcement picture, I just happened to be wearing a dress with stars and moons on it. Honestly, not something I would normally wear so when I look back, I’m so in awe that that happened naturally.

*We planned to have a small baby shower for him, but it got canceled due to Covid. The theme was Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

*His nursery is star and moon themed. It’s what I was just naturally drawn to for some reason.

It’s funny that non of this stuff ever occurred to. me until he was born and the midwife said that. Everything clicked and I just love these little signs from the heavens.

Now back to the party…

I LOVE decorations and really sticking with the theme. My parents always threw us the most memorable birthday parties, on a very low budget. Their creativity always amazed me and I try to emulate that on a daily basis with my kids, but especially with birthdays and holidays.

If you know me, you know balloons are my favorite thing ever. They just make everyone happy and they are so visually appealing. Balloons really make such a statement, no matter how you style them. I’ve made a few balloon arches and similar for Luca’s birthdays but I still haven’t mastered it yet. So for this party, I chose to hire my sweet friend Pim from The Sweet Pea Shoppe to do this balloon install. I think she absolutely killed it!

Ok I can’t wait anymore…let’s talk about this cake!! I died when I saw it, it’s so cute!

I worked with Karla of Sweets by Karla, who also has done both of Luca’s birthday cakes. I showed her a few inspiration pics, gave her the color scheme and personal details I wanted, and this is what she brought me. I mean, I was blown away.

Here it is next to my sisters smash cake! My sister always makes the boys smash cakes or other amazing treats for their birthdays. I asked for a star shaped cake with galaxy frosting and it’s so perfect.

Remember his first birthday photoshoot? I loved the backdrop SO much, that I took it down and put it back up downstairs in the dining room for his birthday party! I added some framed pieces from his nursery and I am so thrilled with how it turned out. I just used blue tape to attach the pictures to the wall, and they stayed up for over a week and came down with no issues.

A few more balloon installations because I couldn’t resist…

For every birthday, and sometimes holidays, I get custom cookies made from Southern Home Bakery. They are the most delicious cookies and they always create the most beautiful designs.

You see that large number 1 with a collage of pictures? So I made the same thing for Luca’s first birthday and loved it so much, I made another! Well, my dad made the 1 out of foam board and I did the collage. ;)
