California Coast Maternity Shoot
To be totally honest, it wasn’t a planned shoot at all. I knew I wanted to bring a few maternity gowns and dresses with me on our trip to California. I also knew that there was a good possibility we would be too busy or too tired to even take these pictures. Because of all that, I didn’t want to stress RC out too much by planning some elaborate photoshoot.
But I wont lie, I’m so glad we were able to get a few shots because these are my favorite maternity pictures we took.
The day we decided to drive to PCH, I made sure my dresses were steamed and in the car. I figured, when we go there, I would just throw one on and hope that RC would want to take a few shots. My hair and makeup was not perfect, but we were at the beach so it didn’t matter that much.
Being on the PCH and seeing how beautiful it was overlooking the ocean, I knew then that I had a vision. Having the cliffs and the ocean all in the same background just sounded so amazing to me. We pulled over on the side of the road and I changed into my grey gown. Very carefully, after RC getting so mad at the idea, I climbed down a few rocks on the edge for the shot. I was really happy with how they came out because it was such a quick and spontaneous thing. It really could have been a disaster.
At first, the June gloom was in full effect so we had some decent lighting. After I changed into the purple dress. The sun then started to come out as we climbed down the rocks to the actual beach. RC was not thrilled about shooting in direct sunlight, but we had fun. Until a huge wave came and destroyed his sneakers…but who doesn’t take their shoes off when they walk on the sand?!
Sometimes, the best pictures come when you find unexpected locations and you don’t stress about planning them.
